Dr Aly Virani BDS (Hons), MJDF RCS (Eng) Dip Imp Dent RCS Ed
Implant Dentist & Clinical Director – GDC No 229404
Aly Virani is a graduate of Cardiff University and is registered with the General Dental Council. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has awarded him a diploma in implant dentistry. His practice of dentistry is focused solely on the placement and restoration of dental implants.
Aly is Zara’s husband and joins the team at Cloves Dental Care as resident implantologist, placing and restoring dental implants as well as carrying out complex oral surgery. When he is not working in Cardiff, Aly travels to practices across South Wales, the South West of England and the West Midlands where he carries out complex surgical and restorative work on behalf of referring dentists.
He is particularly excited about the facilities at Cloves Dental Care, especially the Cone Beam Computed-Tomography (CBCT) scanner at the practice, which allows him to visualise the jaws and plan dental implant surgeries in 3D. This is the gold standard x-ray in dental implantology and offers the highest standards of diagnostics and safety.
Before leaving to dedicate all of his clinical time to implant dentistry, Aly previously spent 5 years working in Cardiff as a general dental practitioner with a particular interest in Implantology and Periodontology at a private specialist practice.
From 2013-2019, Aly also worked as a Clinical Research Fellow and a Clinical Lecturer at Bristol Dental Hospital, University of Bristol. He was also involved with undergraduate teaching & training of Periodontology at the University of Bristol, and has assisted with practical instruction on the Masters Programme in Implantology.
Aly is currently an elected representative on the executive committee of the Independent Dental Association Wales and an ambassador for the Young ITI (International Team for Implantology). These positions allow him to play an active part in shaping the delivery of independent dentistry in Wales and in helping to direct the future of implantology in the UK & Ireland.
He has held a position on the board of directors of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), where he was the Welsh Representative from 2015-2017. He is a Member of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and remains an active member of the Association of Dental Implantology. He continues to lecture in the national forum.
Aly is honoured to be a shortlisted finalist for Best Young Dentist at both The Dentistry Awards 2020 and the Private Dentistry Awards 2020. These nominations are based on his postgraduate education, patient and colleague testimonials, quality of clinical cases and contribution to dentistry.
Aly enjoys working together with his patients in order to meet their oral health requirements. He believes in a holistic and specific approach tailored to each patient, from the nervous individual to those looking to improve their smile. He appreciates that one’s experiences and circumstances are fundamental to understanding their dental needs. He prides himself in being able to tailor treatment plans to each patient and succinctly communicate these often complex plans.
