Upon qualifying from Cardiff University, Emma worked for the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, predominantly treating patients who were undergoing treatment for cancer in the head and neck region. Part of her role also included caring for patients with complex medical needs as well as those with severe and aggressive periodontal disease. This was challenging clinical work that provided Emma with invaluable experience.
In 2013 Emma joined the hygiene team at a private specialist periodontal practice in Cardiff. Working closely with specialist periodontists, she was providing treatment for patients that were referred to the practice by their dentists for the treatment of gum disease. Part of her role also included stabilising patients in preparation for the placement of dental implants. Following the dental implant treatments, Emma was responsible for providing tailored instruction on the correct home care maintenance for dental implants. She also provided the quarterly monitoring and maintenance for patients in order to ensure the health of their gums and dental implant restorations.
Emma prides herself on providing patients with a high standard of clinical care alongside a friendly and personalised dental experience. She focuses on educating patients on their dental diseases and likes to work with patients to allow them to take control of their long-term oral health.
Emma is also particularly interested in dental implants and in 2017, she was a guest speaker at the Association of Dental Implants Members’ National Forum in Manchester. At this event she gave a talk to over 100 implantologists on a topic that she is very passionate about: the role of teamwork in providing patients with the best possible clinical care.
Emma currently splits her time between Cardiff and rural Ireland, where her husband is from. They have 2 children. Emma adores time with her family, and they love spending time at the beach.
